Podcast 17: The Opposite Of Hallelujah

Posted on: 06.22.14

Defiance is back! Season 2 starts out with a fantastic episode in The Opposite Of Hallelajuh. Our returning cast gives us wonderful performances with Hellbugs, Stahma Tarr, Amanda Rosewater, Irisa, Joshua Nolan, Rafe McCawley and Alak Tarr. Shannon, Sean and Stargate Pioneer marvel at how SyFy got away with a VERY suggestive show on cable television. Defiance also shows us the characters on television of Pottinger, Churchill, Varus, and Barth. And once again poor Ben Cotton just can't get a break and dies with just a bit roll in a series. Stargate Pioneer laments the disappearance of Alak's radio/podcast studio at the top of the Defiance Arch. The hosts also speculate on a possible anti-E-Rep underground, just who is running and taking drugs in Defiance these days, how the NSA evolved into 2047, how the Karizi Artificial Intelligence is quite possibly insane (like Cortana on Halo), and if we will or will not see Kenya in this season (and what form we may or may not see her in). We also get our first look at exactly who's running Defiance (Dr. Venkman), our first SUVs on Erf, and look forward to how the characters of Stahma, Yewll and Christie will develop this season.

Join us next week as we discuss the second season 2 Defiance: In My Secret Life.

Posted on: 06.04.14

Defiance is rocked by the most meaningful events since the Votan fleet exploded in orbit this week in the Voices Of Defiance rewatch of the season one finale episode, Everything Is Broken. Also in this podcast: postulation on Irisa’s physical knives versus Datak’s energy blade; the little seen but not explained laser sight on Datak after his fight with Nolan - just who was behind it?; why was Nolan’s military record sealed?; the Liberata must certainly be flying high on 78% Nitogren; Rafe shows off his style and marital advice to Alak; just how much of a player is Alak capable of being?; another shoutout (again) to Bear McCreary; and was Wash from Firefly really the pilot of the last Arkfall?

Podcast 12: The Bride Wore Black
(Image taken by Shannon on May 14th, 2014 at the Dallas Comic Con)
Posted on: 05.24.14

It’s May and that means it’s wedding season here at Voices Of Defiance as our hosts, Shannon, Sean and Stargate Pioneer talk about their rewatch the season one defiance episode The Bride Wore Black. The hosts discuss how much Hunter Bell meant to Defiance, even though he was like the Hellbug venom from time to time and also the first time Stahma unleashed appears. Also there is a discussion of how much Alak Tarr actually mans up or not in this episode and a further discussion over what a dangerous and a skilled individual Doc Yewll was. There is no mourning for Nicolette Riordan, though. Stargate Pioneer rounds out the episode by giving a little tutorial about Liberatas

The cast returns shoutouts to Mike Crate on Facebook and Steve Salyer on Twitter.

Shannon tells us all to ignore Sean as much as possible multiple times. Sean tells us of the success of his nerd musk and they both tell us about the potential to selling one of their daughters for a lighted Thundercats Sword.

See you next week as the hosts discuss the next Defiance episode, Past is Prologue.

Podcast 11: If I Ever Leave This World Alive
(Image from redorbit.com)
Posted on: 05.17.14

The hosts of Voices Of Defiance bunker down this week and weather through the plague as they talk about their rewatch of If I Ever Leave This World Alive and touch on how the story, while emotional, is very dark. The darkness goes even deeper as Olfin Tennety of the Earth Republic seems to be getting Nicolette Riordan nasty with arranging the introduction of the plague to Defiance. The only thing lifting Defiance out of certain doom is the Tarr’s of all people - but their help is not without it’s consequences either.

Sean and Stargate Pioneer also wish Shannon a “Happy Push An Alien Through Your Uterus Day.” The trio talk about not-so-children book Defiance Children’s Book on syfy.com. They postulate on what the family road trip was like that the Votans took from Votanis to Sol. They discuss the design style of the Votan Ark ships. They tip their hats off to Doc Yewll again as how intergrated she really is in the Defiance universe. They discuss how fragile and screwed up Amanda Rosewater really is. They state how screwed up Gail the slag-head miner really is and what sort of karma train should ram into her at high velocity. They pay attention to Pilar...they mean Linda Hamilton’s...description. And Stargate Pioneer gives some insight into Gulanite from the SyFy.com website.

The trio give a shout out to Inteligaurd on the Defiance subreddit for the Voices Of Defiance love and also Sean’s mom (again). The Voices of Defiance trio also discuss the move of Trion to make Defiance free to play starting June 4th.

See you next week as the hosts discuss the next Defiance episode, The Bride Wore Black.

Podcast 10: I Just Wasn't Made For These Times
Posted on: 05.04.14
After two weeks apart the hosts of Voices Of Defiance are excited to reunite and discuss … well … everything, including Sean’s favorite Defiance Episode I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times. It wouldn’t be a Voices Of Defiance episode without Shannon mentioning her favorite show Warehouse 13 or Sean giving a seanscream for Starblazers or Stargate Pioneer giving his latest conspiracy theories including one about Indogenes and … Rafe McCawley?

Sean, through his agent Stargate Pioneer as well as himself, extends his deepest and sincere apologies to Tricia Helfer for a previous comment 7 years ago and that he would love the opportunity to interview her if she ever would grant it.

The trio give a shout out to Inteligaurd on the Defiance subreddit for the Voices Of Defiance love and also Sean’s mom (again). The Voices of Defiance trio also discuss the move of Trion to make Defiance free to play starting June 4th.

Other quick discussions during the podcast include: Sean’s discovery of Wonder Woman in Doc Yewll’s office (and subsequent woman superhero discussion); the differences of the E-Rep in the game and the show; Sean pretends to be his favorite Tangled character; Sean and Shannon play scifi compare/contrast “I Win” games; Sean gets his Twilight on; Stargate Pioneer podcast gears out on Charlie Rovers’ Zoom H1; Shannon entices Sean with a Stahma-Terminator picture; Stargate Pioneer is willing to chip in for a Kickstarter for the movie Bravery Nine; Stargate Pioneer softens his soapbox on the lack of planes and flying in Defiance; Yewll’s amazing high definition tech eyes; and Jaime Murray’s lack of Defiance gameplay know how.

Other mentions include: Robotech, The Rocketeer, Thundercats, Stargate, The Americans, Star Trek Enterprise, Battlestar Galactica, Riddick, McClintock (John Wayne), Skyrim, Titanfall, and Destiny.

See you next week as the hosts discuss the next Defiance episode, If I Ever Leave This World Alive.

Podcast 9: Goodbye Blue Sky
Posted on: 04.24.14
It’s a dark and stormy night in Defiance. Razer Rain threatens everyone and everything in Defiance from the Spirit Riders to Tommy to the Arch to Mr. Hot Shatko to the McCawleys. Stahma and Kenya begin their seductive and deadly dance. And Christie wigs out about a Castithan newlywed family bath ritual.

In this week’s Voices Of Defiance, Shannon, Sean and Stargate Pioneer enjoy the wonderful special effects of Defiance, talk about the Defiance teens versus their parents, discuss the phenomena of “dare deviling,” discuss the special connection Sukar and Irisa now enjoy, discover further Sean’s fascination with glitter eyes, wonder who is trying to pull the eyes over who between Stahma and Kenya, note the full frontal assault Nicky performs on the McCawley’s, and Stargate Pioneer gives us his “Light Bulb” moment on Irathians.

The Voice of Defiance trio also discuss the move of Defiance season 1 episodes now streaming on Amazon Prime and no longer on SyFy.com.

Other quick discussions during the podcast include: How Irathients are Thundercat-like; How the trees in Defiance remind us all of Dr. Seuss Lorax trees; How Alak is NOT Datak; State how well Futurama’s Dr. Zoidberg will fit in Defiance; and Ponder our second business opportunity needed in Defiance - a bowling alley.

See you in two weeks as the hosts discuss the next Defiance episode, I Just Wasn't Made for These Times.

Podcast 8: Brothers In Arms
Posted on: 04.19.14
For a little frontier town in between the badlands and the storm divide Defiance sure is a gathering point for the strange, the psychopaths and the apex for what’s really going on with our new Erf. This week the Voices Of Defiance hosts discuss the happenings of our little town that could including Nolan’s past with the E-Rep army comes back to haunt him as Uncle Eddie passes through town looking for a runner; The runner happens to be the grand weapons designer Pol Madis who knows something about Doc Yewll’s sorted past with the Biodyne Project; Amanda slightly pulls off the lid on Kenya’s ominous Hunter Bill; The E-Rep forces Amanda’s ex Connor Lang to reintroduce himself into Amanda’s life; The late Mr. Birch refers to the golden key as “the artifact;” And Quentin does some digging into St. Louis’ geological past.

The Voice of Defiance trio also discuss background information on Indogenes with the newly named ‘Light Bulb’ segment by Shannon; the upcoming role Linda Hamilton will play in Defiance; and what kind of men No-Man Nolan and Uncle Eddie really are.

Other quick discussions during the podcast include: How men left alone in the house will always end up with Cheeto Fingers; women that are role models and ground breaks in scifi, television and the movies; and we get to say “hi mom.”

See you next week as the hosts discuss the next Defiance episode, Goodbye Blue Sky.

Podcast 7: The Serpent's Egg
Posted on: 04.10.14
The origins of Irisa’s serpent background are revealed to us! Well, sort of. But we get the highlights that her tween years were NOT spent as a child pop star in Asia but rather as the target of one whacked out intergalactic cult. And we keep being reminded of what a different world it is with the Earth Republic Ambassador willing to sacrifice her husbands just to take a bite out of Defiance.

In this week’s Voices Of Defiance, Shannon, Sean and Stargate Pioneer venture into the world of post apocalyptic land travel and demonic religious ceremonies during their rewatch of The Serpent’s Egg. The realities of attempting to secure a Mag Lev spur into Defiance is risky business indeed. Our heroes go through a lot for our little town that could. If only someone would be able to take notice.

The Voice of Defiance trio also discuss 5th (and last) Trion video game DLC, the new season 2 extended trailer full of spoilers, a short tutorial on Castithans, and how Bear McCreary is such a genius with music in science fiction these days.

Other quick discussions during the podcast include: More info on Erin Grey and Heroes For Hire; How Sean generally makes stuff up; Geek out on Alak’s podcast...er...we mean Raider Radio gear; How Alak Tarr is actually The Flash; How the town defense century system is actually Defiance’s NSA; Discuss Nolan versus Raylan from Justified on the gun draw; What exactly is going on with the new world comms and why we can’t even have AOL dial up internet; And how a good business opportunity in Defiance would be a car wash.

See you next week as the hosts discuss the next Defiance episode, Brothers in Arms.

Podcast 6: A Well Respected Man & Minisodes!
Posted on: 03.31.14
R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to Datak! We all know that the Castithan likes to make a statement, but now he can do so on the Defiance town council thanks to the intricate webs his wife Stahma weaves. But he’s not the only one struggling for a little respect - both Quentin McCawley and Amanda Rosewater need it in their lives too. And nobody seems to have much respect for the Rosewater’s mother - at least for now.

In this week’s Voices Of Defiance, Shannon, Sean and Stargate Pioneer venture into the world of post apocalyptic respect during their rewatch of A Well Respected Man. “Global” town events aren’t put on hold either as the town figures out how to deal with the loss of the Lawkeeper and Stasis Net (Duh, try to rebuild or repair the Stasis Net in Bissel Pass) while advancing the economic status of the town with a Mag Lev spur.

The trio also discuss the five Defiance Minisodes launched at SyFy.com over the weekend and where we might find Nolan at the start of the second season and whether or not Nolan and Lennie actually set up The Watchmen from the beginning or not. And the announced premiere date of Defiance’s second season: June 19th, 2014.

Other quick discussions during the podcast include: How SciFi fans are some of the most critical and judgmental fans around, Pondering if The Volge sing their children lullabies like Earth Vikings, Our admiration of Erin Grey, Diversion into the classic cars used in and around Defiance, Where a man who needs a grace period might find some legitimate new-world Viagra, Speculate on just where Christie might be (hint: it has to do with ropes and the Tarr bath house), Discuss the Antarctica Public Relations Department, Feel sorry for Rafe’s foreman Rupert, How cookies make EVERYTHING better, and Reminisce about how the Sky Regent Stratocarrier reminds us for the Robotech SDF-1 or a downed Halo capital ship.

Podcast 5: The Devil In The Dark
Posted on: 03.24.14
What better way to celebrate father-daughter relationships in Defiance than having to fend off a Hellbug hive? As we learn this week Hellbugs are descended partially from butterflies after all and all little daughters love butterflies. Even ones that turn into bone marrow eating ground diggers that chase down and kill runners with scented vintage red running shoes.

In this week’s Voices Of Defiance Shannon, Sean and Stargate Pioneer take a look at the first season Defiance episode The Devil In The Dark. The trio immediately notices how much better the episode is the second time around after having watched the complete Season 1 when it was aired last year because the entire season must have been premeditated by the writers and producers from the beginning as noted in the episode by Irisa’s visions and natural abilities.

Backstory is always good, too. We get some of that in The Devil In The Dark when Sukar explains to Amanda what his position on Defiance is. But Sukar’s ways are shocked to their core when he discovers Irisa. And the Voices Of Defiance hosts get to rediscover Sukar’s rather fit physique.

Our hosts also wonder just what was Christie’s issue with bathing in the Tarr house- especially since with almost certainty Stahma would be present. In addition to Christie’s bathing choices the hosts pontificate about Christie’s ability to match Stahma’s cunningness.

And speaking of cunningness, Defiance shows us just why Stahma chose Datak as her husband over her arranged marriage. Datak has power partially due to his physical prowess - and the Hellbugs note his wrath.

The hosts also mention the webisodes, but no specific air date yet for the webisodes or the season 2 premier episode.

And let’s all not forget Sean likes to wear dresses.

See you next week as the hosts discuss the next Defiance episode, A Well Respected Man.

Podcast 4: Defiance Game Update 1.4 and Gameplay
Posted on: 03.16.14
This week Shannon, Sean and Stargate Pioneer venture into the lands of the Trion Defiance Video Game and its recent 1.4 update. The trio discuss issues caused by updating, how stable the gaming platform is currently, how they all seem to suck at playing (but yet Sean has no problem finishing the main story), and how in-game interactions have changed. Sean and Stargate Pioneer marvel at Shannon’s ability to take on multiple gangs simultaneously in real life yet how she runs and hides from Hellbugs in the Defiance game. Sean pontificates on how Defiance ranks both as an MMO and as a scifi story game. Stargate Pioneer requests help in figuring out what the best chat headset for an Xbox 360 is. Sean and Stargate Pioneer take a moment to point out which Voices Of Defiance podcast host is truly infatuated with the darling Jaime Murray. All three hosts thank a few listeners for the wonderful feedback they have received so far. Stargate Pioneer and Shannon relay their bee killing techniques in real life. Sean gushes about Mass Effect including how Shannon could recognize FemShep at a convention without ever having played Mass Effect herself. Sean also informs us that the best weapon in the Defiance game is a Pump Action Fire Loaded Shotgun. And finally Stargate Pioneer fills us in on the homeworlds of the Votans. But wait….there’s more! Come for the cast, stay for the extras! After the main credits Sean, Shannon and Stargate Pioneer discuss the state of SyFy, Sean and Stargate Pioneer attempt to explain Pi Day (March 14th) to Shannon, Sean fanboys out over Mass Effect even more, and several other brief extras. Join us next week as we discuss Defiance’s third episode “The Devil In The Dark.” Contact us @VoicesODefiance - feedback@voicesofdefiance.com - www.voicesofdefiance.com - www.facebook.com/voicesofdefiance - 612-888-ark1 or 612-888-2751.
Podcast 3: Down In The Ground Where The Dead Men Go
Posted on: 03.10.14
This week Shannon' Sean and Stargate Pioneer look back on Defiance's second episode "Down In The Ground Where The Dead Men Go," they conjecture on how Warehouse 13 fared the Votan planet fall and resulting Pale Wars, wonder if Earth still has the Moon or if it is now Erf, speculate on if Mr. Birch is part Indogene and part Bee Gee, revisit Doc Yewll's fascination with a frog diagram, muse about potential high school teachers amongst our favorite Defiance residents, fawn over the entire Defiance cast performance on screen, obsess a bit about Stahma Tarr in her various positions of glory around town - and in the Tarr bath, disagree on what drives Joshua Nolan to action, rant about the vehicles that ARE available in the Defiance world and what vehicles SHOULD be available in Defiance, discuss our recent revisit into the Trion Defiance video game and our status as mangina game players, try to peg down Rafe McCawley's psyche, listen to Stargate Pioneer's research report into the Darby building, and yearn for an actual town map of Defiance.
